As a multi-passionate, multi-hyphenate type of gal, I love having my hands in all kinds of different areas that are creative and expansive. The freedom and flexibility of that can feel energizing.
Until, of course, it doesn’t.
Until you look back on the day and realize your schedule was this place, that place, all over the place and your attention was scattered. And somehow the things that actually mattered to you at the start of the day didn’t quite happen.
That’s where I’ve learned that structure doesn’t limit freedom, it creates it.
When everything is sooo open-ended, nothing is protected and anything goes. But when you add just a tiny bit of intention and shape to your day, you give yourself room to actually move, create, and breathe more without the constant juggling of thoughts around ‘What am I going to do next?’
For me, that’s where the bookends of my day come in — in particular in the morning.
My mornings are so important to me. I know that if I don’t start the day with intentional movement, it’s probably not happening later. I get tired, I have other priorities pop up in my day, and I just lose that momentum and desire, to be honest. As the day continues on, my brain becomes more focused on work over movement.
Mornings work for me but maybe it’s a different time of day for you. Think about one small anchor you could add to your day. A moment where you can count on yourself to show up. Choose a simple structure to your day that can give you the energy, clarity, focus, and sense of agency that you deserve. Your future self will thank you. 🫶
