Hi Friend,
I care about a lot of things, as I know you do too. The list is long — family, friends, being a contribution to my community, work, growing my business, creating momentum and forward progress in all areas of my life. All of these things are true. But the underlying question behind anything I do in life has become:
Is this supporting my health — or is it taking away from it?
When you’ve experienced a health challenge, the idea of success changes. None of the things we’re working so hard for — careers, money, opportunities — really mean as much if your body is breaking down underneath it all.
Health isn’t something you “circle back” to once work is finished. Your health is the foundation that everything else in your life stands on.
Earlier this year, I shared that my word of the year is flourish. I think about it often — how can I create the conditions and the right environment so that I can flourish, especially when it comes to my health?
Sometimes the most flourishing thing you can do is incredibly simple — go to bed earlier. Other times, it means working in a way that doesn’t constantly ask your nervous system to be on high alert.
There’s a version of hustle culture that treats the body like a vehicle you can run hard and repair later. As if you’ve got a full tank of gas, so you might as well go all day until you’re on empty.
The older I get, the clearer it becomes: I don’t want to achieve at the expense of the very thing that makes living possible. 🙏
If you’re in a season where your body is asking for more care, more rest, or more honesty about your limits, I hope this is a gentle reminder that tending to your health is how you, too, can flourish.
