Hi Friend,
I wrote the subject line of this email, heard my email notification ping and immediately switched over to see what came through. For five minutes, I was distracted and finally found my way back here to finish writing the newsletter.
I wonder how many times a day we lose focus with notifications, pings, scattered thoughts that pop up in our minds randomly. And it all somehow feels urgent doesn’t it? If you try to count, you might surprise and shock yourself. 😅
What would happen though if instead we practiced creating focus instead of constantly reacting. Especially when it comes to something that actually matters to you: a task, project, or dream that’s been living in your heart but you haven’t quite created the opening to take steps towards it?
Focus has a rhythm and a place in our lives. Sometimes that looks like choosing, on purpose, to stay with what you care about long enough to finish it.
As a gentle challenge to you, what’s something in your heart you’ve been wanting to do (but can’t seem to find the time, energy or focus for lately)?
Respond to this email and let me know!
Rachel

📖 Know
When we switch tasks, our brain doesn’t fully “let go” of what we were just doing. Research on attention residue shows that part of your attention can stay stuck on the previous task, which makes it harder to think clearly and perform well on the next one, especially if you’re bouncing around before finishing what you started. So if it feels hard to drop back in after a ping or quick check, that’s not a character flaw — it’s a real cognitive effect.

🌱 Begin
Pick a “focus date” with yourself today. Think about a task that has been on your mind but you haven’t yet started or finished it. You know it’s important to you but yet… So do this: Set aside 20 minutes and put it on your calendar, solely work on that task, and make it distraction-free (DND on, one tab open, phone facedown). Afterward, write down one line: How do I feel when I finish what I start?
