For the person who wants to achieve and move quickly…
This is your reminder that it’s not necessarily about speed, it’s actually about slowing down and the focus you have on the direction.
Do you know what you want to achieve? Do you know what specific goals you have? Whether that’s in work, family, health, hobbies, or a combination of them all, you need to know where you want to go before you start moving. Another question I like to ask in this external-centric world is: Is it your goal or is it someone else’s goal?
I don’t know about you but I’ve achieved certain titles in my professional life only to realize that certain promotions or milestones fell short for me as they weren’t even my goals, they were goals that I thought I should have.
Or there have been instances where I’ve noticed the world moving so quickly around me that I have felt pressured to just do without putting an emphasis on whether the action is in alignment for me.
As you move through your week, looking to achieve and get through as many things as possible, take a step back and notice ways you can slow down in order to be intentional with the direction in which you are going. Slowing down will allow you to assess whether the direction and road you are going down is what is meant for you.
When you slow down you can:
Align yourself to goals and focus areas of life that are meaningful to you in this moment
Replenish your energy along the way so that you do not burnout and move throughout your week, busy yet directionless
Pay attention to areas you may have missed previously (which as a side note, slowing down in the workplace is important even though companies don’t always value it, as I’m reminded by the HBO intern and the ‘test’ email that was sent out)
Press ‘reply’ and let me know how this message resonates with you.
See you next week,
Rachel
